Why do dogs love soft squeaky toys so much?
Soft plush toys are often given to puppies to keep them company after they leave their mothers. The new puppy can snuggle up to the soft toy to feel safe and secure in their new and unfamiliar home.
Squeaky toys are designed more to excite and intrigue your dog. There are two theories that have been put forward by the PetMeds blog as to why a squeaky toy is exciting to dogs.
One is that our dogs are descended from wolves and the squeaky noise is similar to frightened or injured prey. This appeals to our dog’s hunting instincts. Once the squeaker has been removed, the prey is “dead” and a dog’s job is complete.
Or...... perhaps our dogs just love the noise squeaky toys make while they are playing with it. The noise will keep your dog interested for a long time and may find your dog pouncing, jumping or playing with the toy.
All dogs and breeds behave differently with toys and you will have to find the type of toy that is suitable for your dog.
My dog, Tiger the 16 lb terrier, has strong hunting and chase instincts and will find and surgically remove the squeaker within minutes, then continue to tear the soft toy to shreds.
A friend's 60 lb Old English Sheepdog carries her toys around gently before finding a nice place to cuddle up with them. She has had the same soft toys for years without destroying a single one.
Never the less, soft squeaky toys are the biggest selling toys for dogs at the moment and the biggest selling of all of them is the Long Cozie Dog Squeaky Toy.
The KONG Cozies are cute, soft and cuddly plush toys that are made with an extra layer of material to make them extra tough. Cozies are perfect for a game of fetch or great as a comfort toy for your furry friend.
